Essie Gel Couture x Reem Acra

Het is mei! Iedereen heeft wel een verhaal bij de maanden van het jaar. Mijn verhaal bij mei is dat we in deze maand zijn getrouwd! Daarom wil ik deze maand proberen romantische nail art te maken die je eventueel ook op je bruiloft kan dragen.

It’s May! With every month of the year comes a story. My story with May is that it is our wedding anniversary month! So this month I want to make romantic nail arts that could also be worn on your wedding day.

Een mooie opener van mijn romantische meimaand is de Essie Gel Couture wedding collection van Reem Acra. Deze collectie bestaat uit zes nagellakken, waarvan ik er vier heb gekocht.

A good start for this romantic month of May is the Essie Gel Couture wedding collection by Reem Acra. This collection is made up of six polishes and I bought four.

Ik heb van deze kleurtjes swatches gemaakt. Omdat ik prachtig licht had die dag, lukte het mij om macro’s te maken. Ik heb met een wat ongemakkelijke handpositie ervoor gekozen om mijn ringvinger eruit te lichten. Ik heb iedere lak op dezelfde manier aangebracht: base coat, twee laagjes kleur, geen top coat.

I made swatches of these four. I had beautiful light that day, so I was able to make macro shots. I was a bit uncomfortable, but I decided to let my ring finger be the main focus (wink wink). I treated each polish the same: base coat, two coats of colour, no top coat.

Met de klok mee zijn dit forever family, getting intricate, picture perfect en moments to mrs.

Clockwise it’s forever family, getting intricate, picture perfect and moments to mrs.

Forever family is een roodroze tint met shimmer. Hij is volledig dekkend en heel feestelijk! Getting intricate is een lichtblauw die perfect is als accent en die je kan gebruiken voor “something blue”. Picture perfect is sheer met kleine gouden flakes. Deze melkwitte lak heeft wel wat weg van de lak die ik op mijn eigen trouwdag droeg. Tot slot is er moments to mrs. Deze is ook sheer met grotere flakies. De kleur zou ik omschrijven als lavendelroze. Ik heb moments to mrs. gekozen om een nail art mee te doen.

Forever family is a mulberry red nail polish with shimmer. It’s fully covering and very festive! Getting intricate is eggshell blue. It’s perfect for an accent nail to be your “something blue”. Picture perfect is a sheer nail polish. It’s a milky white with small golden flakes. It reminds me a lot of the polish I wore on my own wedding day! Finally moments to mrs. is also a sheer nail polish with flakies. I would describe the colour as lavender pink. I chose moments to mrs. for a nail art.

Ik lakte eerst een wat dikker laagje Essie need a vacation en deed daarover een laagje Essie Gel Couture moments to mrs. Daarna stempelde ik het randje met de hartjes op mijn nagels met Nicole Diary in wit. Het was de eerste keer met deze stempellak en mijn top coat was er niet echt vriendjes mee. Je ziet op mijn tips dat het een beetje is uitgesmeerd.

I started with a medium thick coat of Essie need a vacation. After that I followed with a coat of Essie Gel Couture moments to mrs. I stamped the hearts with Nicole Diary in white. It was the first time I used this stamping polish. My top coat and this stamping polish do not really like each other because it smeared a bit.

Treasures lost under the sea

To celebrate 1k followers @thenailpolishhoarder has a giveaway with the theme “Treasures lost under the sea”. My first thought was pirates! And the hunt for lost pirate treasures!

To set myself an extra challenge I decided to do a one label only mani (except for stamping polish). In my collection of plates I found a Dashica SdP plate with a pirate theme and I found a BornPretty plate with wave-like swirls. And in the stash the label of choice became OPI because of all the beautiful blue shades I own.

On my thumb, index finger and little finger I painted two layers of The sky’s my limit. On my middle finger and ring finger I made a jelly sandwich with Miss Piggy’s big number and I don’t speak meek.

Following this base I stamped the “waves” with I saw… U saw… we saw… Warsaw over The sky’s my limit. I have short nails, so I decided to turn the stamp for a better effect.

On my ring finger I stamped a pirate ship with Nicole Diary black. On my middle finger I made small decal of the treasure map (Do you take lei away) and added a pirate hat and some golden dots (50 years of style) to represent the golden ducats of the treasure! I had hoped that the glitter of I don’t speak meek would do the ducats job, but it was not as visible as I had hoped.

Pantone challenge deel 2

Het is alweer een maand geleden dat ik mijn eerste deel van de Pantone challenge schreef. Tijd voor een update!

It’s been a month since I wrote the first post about the Pantone challenge. Time for an update!

De afgelopen maand zijn deze kleuren geweest: Nile Green, Rapture Rose, Harbor Mist, Spiced Apple en Ash rose. Ik zal de prachtige inspiratie collages van TheNailPolishHoarder laten zien en de swatches uit mijn eigen collectie.

This past month the following colours had their turn: Nile Green, Rapture Rose, Harbor Mist, Spiced Apple and Ash Rose. I will show you the beautiful inspirational collages of TheNailPolishHoarder and the swatches from my stash.

De eerste kleur deze maand was Nile Green. Een lichte groene tint met een scheutje blauw. Het was niet makkelijk deze te matchen. Uiteindelijk koos ik voor Sally Hansen Sugar Coat in 600 Sour Apple. Deze is wat lichter dan de echte Nile Green.

The first colour this month was Nile Green. A light green with a touch of blue. It was not easy to find a match. In the end I went with Sally Hansen Sugar Coat in 600 Sour Apple. This is a bit lighter than the real Nile Green.

Hierna volgde Rapture Rose. Dat is een romantische dieproze tint. Mijn camera vindt dit soort tinten heel moeilijk kleurecht te fotograferen, daarom heb ik gekozen voor de kleur die na de foto de beste match was: OPI Suzi has a sweede tooth.

Nile Green was followed by Rapture Rose. It is a romantic rosey red. It is very difficult to get the real colour of such shades with my camera. That’s why I chose the colour that matched best after the picture was taken: OPI Suzie has a sweede tooth.

Toen was het de beurt voor Harbor Mist. Dit is een middengrijze tint uit de klassieke kleuren voor het seizoen. Ik koos voor essence the gel nail polish modern matt 100 miracle stone.

Then it was Harbor Mist’s turn. It’s a mid-tone dove grey from the selection of this season’s classic colours. I chose essence the gel nail polish modern matt 100 miracle stone.

Spiced Apple was de volgende kleur. Dit was een lastige aangezien Chili Oil al was geweest. De een is roodbruin, de ander bruinrood. Ik ging voor Essie shearling darling, een tint donkerder.

Spiced Apple is next. This was a tough one, since Chili Oil is so similar. One is a brownish red, the other a reddish brown. I went with Essie shearling darling, a shade deeper.

Tot slot is het tijd voor Ash Rose. Dit is een vergrijsde oudroze tint. Ik houd wel van dit soort kleurtjes! Mijn keuze werd L’Oréal 221 26 Rue Crémieux.

The final one is Ash Rose. It is a muted greyed pink shade. I like this kind of shades! My choice was L’Oréal 221 26 Rue Crémieux.

Ik vind deze challenge nog steeds ontzettend leuk! Ik ben benieuwd wat komende maand zal brengen!

Vandaag is het Koningsdag! Ik post nu even snel mijn nagels, want zometeen gaan we naar de vrijmarkt en de kermis!

Today is King’s Day! I do a quick post of my nails, because in a moment we are going to the flea market and fair!

De kleurtjes van deze manicure zijn niet echt origineel: oranje, rood, wit en blauw. Toch is het wel grappig hoe ik op het idee kwam, namelijk door de display van Essie met de koningsdag selectie in de drogist. Ik onderdrukte de neiging om deze nagellakken te kopen en ging bij thuiskomst shoppen in de stash.

The colours of this manicure are not really surprising: orange, red, white and blue. It is still a funny story how it came together. I was in the drugstore and saw the Essie display for King’s Day. I suppressed the urge to buy them all and instead decided that I would shop the stash at home.

De oranje nagellak van OPI is een neon, dus ik heb de Revlon Spirit als base op alle nagels gebruikt. Daarna heb ik er de kleuren van de vlag erop gesponsd en een kroontje gestempeld.

The orange nail polish by OPI is a neon, so I used Revlon Spirit as base on all nails. I sponged the colours of our national flag on one nail and stamped a little crown on another.

Haarspeld voor mijn nichtje 2

Een paar weken geleden vertelde ik al dat mijn nichtje jarig is geweest! En tante Jackie mocht zomerjurken uitzoeken en heeft daarbij haarspeldjes gemaakt.

A couple of weeks ago I wrote that my niece had celebrated her third birthday! And auntie Jackie gave her summer dresses and made hair bows.

Voor bij het tweede jurkje heb ik mijn lades gerommeld op zoek naar bloem applicaties. Ik heb daar jaren geleden wat leuke dingen mee gemaakt en ik wist dat ik er nog een paar moest hebben.

For the second set of bows I searched my drawers for floral appliques. I made some nice things with appliques years ago and I knew I had some left.

Dit is het resultaat. Alles is op elkaar gelijmd en op het jurkje gelegd.

This is the finished product. Every thing is glued together en laid on the dress.

Mijn eerste MoYou plaat 2

Vorige week heb ik al verteld dat ik een nieuw merk stempelplaat had gekocht: Moyou London. Deze week heb ik met deze stempelplaat een heel andere manicure gemaakt. Het neutrale grijs paste heel goed bij mijn activiteiten van afgelopen week, nu had ik zin in meer kleur! Lente bloesem kleuren!

Last week I wrote that I bought a new stamping plate: a Moyou London plate. This week I made a completely different manicure with this plate. The neutral grey of last week fitted the activities I had, but today I was in the mood for colour! Spring blossom colours!

Mijn duim en pink kregen de middenroze tint, mijn wijsvinger werd lichtroze en mijn middelvinger donkerroze. Op mijn ringvinger maakte ik eerst een smoosh van alle drie de kleuren en daaroverheen zette ik een stempel.

I polished my thumb and little finger in the midtone pink, my pointer finger light pink and my middle finger the deepest pink. I made a smoosh for my ring finger of all three colours and I topped it off with a stamp.

Het lukte zelfs heel goed op mijn andere hand. Dus een foto met twee handen als bonus!

It even was successful on my other hand. So a bonus picture with two hands!

Look I have two hands!

Mijn eerste MoYou plaat 1

Nu ik de stap heb gemaakt naar online, kom ik een heleboel nieuwe ideeën tegen. In mijn collectie stempelplaten zit veel Dashica en BornPretty. Maar daar is nu een nieuw merk bijgekomen: ik heb mijn eerste MoYou London plaat gekocht!

I have come across a lot of new ideas now I that I have taken the step to go online. I have many stamping plates by Dashica and BornPretty in my collection. And now a new label has joined: I bought my first MoYou London plate!

De stempels op deze plaat zijn vrij klein. Ideaal als je kortere nagels hebt zoals ik, voor langere nagels zijn er XL versies.

The stamps on this plate are small. Ideal for short nails, for longer nails they have XL versions.

Ik kreeg inspiratie voor twee verschillende nail arts. Deze week laat ik de eerste zien.

I was immediately inspired to do two different nail arts. This week I will show you the first one.

Deze week is de thema kleur van de Pantone challenge Harbor mist. Ik koos daarvoor de essence kleur modern matt 100 miracle stone. Deze kleur gebruik ik ook als basis voor de eerste nail art met mijn nieuwe MoYou plaat. Ik pakte Essence colour boost in 08 instant party om mee te stempelen.

This weeks theme colour of the Pantone challenge is Harbor mist. My entry was Essence the gel nail polish modern matt 100 miracle stone. This is also my choice base colour for my first nails art with my new MoYou plate. I picked Essence colour boost in 08 instant party to stamp.

Haarspeld voor mijn nichtje 1

Mijn kleine nichtje is drie jaar geworden!

My little niece has turned three years old!

Om de stroom speelgoed wat in te dammen, hebben mijn broer en schoonzus enkele mensen speciale verzoeken gedaan. Wij mochten wat zomerjurken uitzoeken. Hartstikke leuk! En stiekem is het nog leuker om bij deze jurkjes bijpassende haarspeldjes te maken!

To manage the amount of toy gifts, certain people got special requests from my brother and sister-in-law. We were asked to look for summer dresses. Something I like! But I like it even beter to make matching hair bows with each dress!

We hebben drie zomerjurkjes gegeven, dus ik maak er een serie van drie posts van. Ik laat steeds zien welke materialen ik heb gebruikt en het resultaat op de rok van het jurkje (wat de inspiratie was).

We gave three summer dresses, so I have decided to make it into a series of three posts. I show each time the materials I used and the finished product on the dress (the inspiration after all).

Voor het eerste haarspeldje heb ik deze materialen gepakt: gebloemd katoen, donkerblauw lint, Clover Kanzashi Flower Maker in Orchid Petal extra small size, een bloemen flatback.

For the first hair bow I gathered these materials: floral cotton fabric, dark blue ribbon, Clover Kanzashi Flower Maker in Orchid Petal extra small size, a flatback flower.

Ik heb van het lint een strik gemaakt en daarop de kanzashi bloem gedaan. Dit is de haarspeld op het jurkje. De kleuren matchen goed!

From the ribbon I made a bow and on top I glued the kanzashi flower. This is the finished hair bow on top of the dress. The colours match well!

Soms heb je zin om een niet subtiel kleurtje te dragen en dat heel subtiel te versieren.

Sometimes you just fancy wearing a not so subtle colour with very subtle art.

Ik werd er gewoon blij van toen ik het net op had gedaan. Ik had dit weekeinde de kolder in mijn kop en rondom het huis heel veel werk gedaan. Lente kriebels en dus ook lente schoonmaak in de tuin! Dat zie je ook aan mijn handen. Maar met trouw smeren, zullen mijn handen zo weer zacht zijn.

I was just happy when I saw the result. I have had some mad days where I did a lot of work around the house. It starts to feel like spring and I worked hard on the garden cleanup for spring! It shows on my hands. I promise to moisturise them regularly. That way my hands will be soft again soon.

Ik heb als basis L’Oreal L’Huille nagellak in 228 Rose Bouquet gebruikt en erover gestempeld met Essence I heart trends 34 Turn up the volume en Dashica plaat SdP-85.

As base I painted on L’Oreal L’Huille nail polish in 228 Rose Bouquet and I stamped with Essence I heart trends 34 Turn up the volume and Dashica plate SdP-85.

Vrolijk Pasen!

Vrolijk Pasen allemaal! Voor Pasen wilde ik met zachte pastels werken. Ik vind dat gewoon bij Pasen passen! Net als eieren, paasontbijt en chocola.

Happy Easter everyone! For my Easter manicure I wanted to work with soft pastels. I think that it suits with Easter! Just like eggs, Easter breakfast and chocolate.

Ik koos deze kleurtjes voor de basis. Van links naar rechts: Essie Virgin Snow, Nicole by OPI Yellow it’s me, OPI Small + Cute = 🖤, Essie gel couture Dress is more. Ik bedacht toen dat ik een smoosh mani wilde doen. Ik doe dat met mijn stempel en stempelmat en je kan er verschillende tutorials voor vinden.

I chose these colours for the base. Left to right: Essie Virgin Snow, Nicole by OPI Yellow it’s me, OPI Small + Cute = 🖤, Essie gel couture Dress is more. As I was collecting them I thought of making a smoosh mani. I do that with my stamper and stamping mat. You can find several online tutorials on the technique.

Natuurlijk was het nog niet klaar, ik wilde er nog een stempel op! Op deze Daschica plaat SdP-81 staat een schattig plaatje van een kuiken en een paasei. De keuze was snel gemaakt!

Of course I was not yet finished, I like to stamp! On this Dashica plate SdP-81 is a cute image of a baby chick and an Easter egg. The decision was easy!

Het is echt heel zacht en lief geworden!

It turned out very soft en sweet!

En dan is het nu tijd om me weer bij mijn gezin te voegen. Het paasontbijt was gezellig, lekker en uitgebreid en nu gaan de kinderen eieren zoeken bij opa en oma in de tuin! Hopelijk werkt het weer mee, want het regent nu!

Now it’s time to return to my family. Easter breakfast was great with a lot of food. Next up is an egg hunt for the kids in grandma’s and grandpa’s back yard! I hope the weather improves, because right now it is raining!
