Favorite Painter collab: Piet Mondriaan nail art

Van de week mocht ik op Instagram eindelijk deze nail art delen, die ik heb gemaakt voor de Favorite Painter collab georganiseerd door Polish.Lab.Rat. En nu geef ik het ook aandacht op de blog. Er zijn prachtige freehand nail arts gemaakt, maar ik maakte een full nail stamping decal. Een techniek die ik alweer bijna twee jaar geleden voor het eerst had uitgeprobeerd.

Last week it was finally time to share this nail art on Instagram, that I made for the Favorite Painter collab organised by Polish.Lab.Rat. And now I’m also talking about it here on the blog. Some participants made beautiful freehand nail arts, but I used the technique of a full nail stamping decal. It’s a technique that I haven’t done in almost two years after my first try.

Om uiteindelijk tot deze nail art te komen. En zelfs op twee nagels kan je een groeiende lijn zin qua ervaring en netheid. De eerste decal die ik plaatste was op mijn middelvinger en dat ging niet helemaal goed. Vingernagels zijn rond enzo, en de decal was ook nog vrij groot voor mijn korte nagels. De tweede decal ging alweer een stuk beter!

And here’s the finished nail art! And even on two nails you can see a learning curve. I started placing the first decal on my middle finger and it went on all crooked. Finger nails are sort of rounded and the decal was rather large for my short nails. Ah, well, you know… The second decal was already looking much better!

Deze ronde van When Colours Collide eindigde op Moederdag! Dus heb ik het kleurenthema Zwart, Rood en Oranje gebruikt in een nail art die past bij vandaag.

This round of When Colours Collide ended on Mother’s Day! So I used the theme colours Black, Red and Orange in a nail art that fitted today.

Ik heb op een zwarte ondergrond met nail vinyls of stencils rode en oranje rozen gemaakt. Op Moederdag je moeder bloemen geven hoort er wel een beetje bij.

On a black background I created red and orange roses with nail art vinyls. Giving roses or flowers on Mother’s Day is a very nice custom.

Mijn kinderen hebben mij deze Moederdag erg verwend! Dochter is inmiddels 10 jaar en heeft met een beetje toezicht van papa helemaal zelfstandig een appeltaart gebakken. Natuurlijk was de taart veel te groot voor ons gezin, dus hebben we ook naar de oma’s een stukje gebracht (op keurige afstand). Daarnaast was het papa gelukt om wat oude limited edition Essie Gel Couture nagellakken te kopen en daarmee was ik toch wel heel blij!

The kids really spoiled me this Mother’s Day! Daughter is now 10 years old and with very little supervision by Husband baked an apple pie all by herself. We also brought a piece of apple pie to the grandmas (from a safe distance of course). And Husband traced some older limited edition polishes from Essie’s Gel Couture line and bought them. I’m very happy with the nail polishes!

Morgen starten in Nederland de basisscholen weer deels op. Dan zijn bij ons de kinderen op dinsdag en vrijdag op school. Ik vind het fijn voor ze dat ze weer vriendjes en vriendinnetjes op school kunnen zien. Weer een omschakeling na al die weken thuis!

In the Netherlands the primary schools will start part-time by tomorrow. In our situation the kids will be at school on Tuesday and Friday. I’m really happy for the kids that they will be able to see their friends at school. It’s another big change in these times after so many weeks at home!

Nail art voor 75 jaar vrijheid

Op deze 5 mei vieren we dat we in Nederland op aangepaste wijze dat wij al 75 jaar in vrijheid leven. Dit vieren doen we na de aangepaste herdenking op 4 mei, waarbij we stil hebben gestaan bij alle slachtoffers van de Tweede Wereldoorlog en van oorlogssituaties en vredesmissies nadien. Ondanks alle beperkingen door de coronamaatregelen, vind ik het nog steeds belangrijk om op de blog stil te staan bij deze mijlpaal.

This Fifth of May we celebrate in the Netherlands that we’re living in freedom for 75 years. This celebration followed after the commemoration on the Fourth of May of all the victims of the Second World War and victims of later war situations and peace missions. This year both the commemoration and the celebration have been scaled back due to the COVID-19 measures. I still feel it’s important to recognize this milestone on the blog.

Vandaag draag ik deze nail art. Ik heb mij laten inspireren door het kleurenpallet dat wordt gebruikt voor deze dagen. Op de rode nagels heb ik met zilver bloemen gestempeld, op mijn witte nagel heb ik een zilveren decal van een duif gebruikt en met een blauwe pen het getal 75 eronder gezet.

Today I’m wearing this nail art. I was inspired by the colours that are used for this day. On the red nails I’ve stamped flowers with silver polish and on the white nail I used a silver water decal of a pigeon and I wrote in blue the number 75.

Wat eigenlijk een feestelijke dag had moeten zijn, is dus een thuis dag geworden. En in een tijd met zoveel beperkingen aan je bewegingsvrijheid, is het een flink contrast om stil te staan bij deze lange tijd van vrede. Toch gaan we er een gezellige dag van maken. In aanloop naar deze dag toe hadden we al lesmateriaal gebruikt van het comité 4 en 5 mei, wat een paar mooie gesprekken met de kinderen heeft opgeleverd. Daarmee hoop ik dat deze dag voor onze kinderen toch wat diepgang heeft gekregen.

It should have been a festive day of celebration, but it was turned into another day at home. In a time with so many social restrictions, it seems very contrasting to celebrate this long period of peace and prosperity. Still we intend to create a fun day at home with our kids. In the weeks leading up to this day we used some educational materials from The National Committee for 4 and 5 May. This resulted in some lovely conversations with the kids. So I hope that this milestone has passed with a special meaning for them.

Music Mani: Mijn Dag – Jochem Myjer

Er is weer een nieuwe ronde geweest in de Monthly Music Mani collab. Deze keer was het thema Novelty/ Parody songs. Ik vond dat een lastige categorie om te vertalen en ging daarom voor een liedje van een cabaretier.

There has been a new round in the Monthly Music Mani collab. This time it had the theme Novelty/ Parody songs. That was not easily translated in Dutch, so I went with a song by a Dutch comedian.

Dit liedje heeft een geweldige positieve energie en dat kunnen we in deze tijd goed gebruiken! Daarbij vinden wij (de kinderen en ik) het heerlijk om gek te dansen op dit liedje. Deze nail art maakte ik.

This song has a tremendous energy and my family loves to do a crazy dance on it. This is the nail art I made.

Ik heb de eerste twee nagels geïnspireerd op het rode t-shirt dat Jochem Myjer draagt, daarna een nagel met zijn logo en tot slot een lichtblauwe nagel. En die was gewoon omdat ik er zin in had 😁

The first two nails are inspired by the red t-shirt that Jochem Myjer wears in the video. Then I made a nail with his logo and I ended with a light blue nail, just because I fancied it 😁

Nu is Jochem Myjer in ons huishouden stiekem vooral bekend van de Gorgels. Dit zijn geweldig leuke kinderboeken en zeker in deze tijd kan ik ze je zeker aanraden. Vooral onze jongste houdt ervan dat je dus een waakgorgel hebt die je beschermd tegen ziekte. Dus kijk er eens naar en lees ze lekker voor!

Jochem Myjer is in our household mainly known for his children books about the Gorgels. The books are really funny and also helpful in this time. Our youngest really loves the idea from these books that every child has a “guardian gorgel” that also knows how to protect you against illnesses. As far as I know the books have not been translated in English…

Koningsdag is Woningsdag

Vandaag hebben we een vreemde Koningsdag gevierd. Namelijk een thuis-Koningsdag, omgedoopt tot Woningsdag. Want in deze tijd gelden natuurlijk nog allemaal maatregelen, waardoor een groot feest niet mogelijk was. We hebben oranje tompoucen gegeten, gezelschapsspelletjes gespeeld, heel veel genoten van de zon in de tuin en een rondje video bellen gedaan.

Today we celebrated a different kind of King’s Day. It was a home celebration and the name had been changed to Woningsdag (At Home Day). Because in these times with al kind of COVID-19 measures in place, it’s not possible to celebrate in big masses of people. We ate orange tompoucen (a kind of Napoleons), played some board games, enjoyed the sun in the garden and did a round of video calls.

Ik heb mijn nagels even wat gespaard, zodat ik meer lengte had voor de stempel. Sinds vanavond zijn ze weer kort! Ik heb de nationale kleuren gebruikt in combinatie met een stempel met allemaal kroontjes. Ik gebruikte holo nagellakken voor wat meer feestelijk gevoel.

I saved some nail length to fit more crowns on my nails, no worries they are cut back again tonight. I used the national colours (orange, red, white and blue) and a stamping image with all kinds of crowns. I used different polishes with holo glitters for a more festive feel.

Deze ronde van When Colours Collide was met de kleuren Zwart, Wit en Geel. En dit heb ik ermee gemaakt.

This round of When Colours Collide was with the colours Black, White and Yellow. This is what I made.

Ik gebruikte Essie hay there als basis, behalve op mijn ringvinger. Daarna stempelde ik met wit en zwart hetzelfde patroon.

I used Essie hay there as base, except for my ring finger. I stamped the same pattern on all nails in white or black.

Hoe is het met jullie in deze coronatijd? Zo zijn we het thuis gaan noemen in navolging van het Jeugdjournaal. Afgelopen weken kregen we te horen dat vanaf 11 mei de basisschoolkinderen weer de helft van de tijd naar school mogen gaan. De andere helft moeten ze thuis aan hun schoolwerk werken. Dit bericht is hier goed ontvangen! De juffen en klasgenootjes worden flink gemist. Maar nu hebben we eerst nog twee weken meivakantie! Morgen is het Koningsdag. Dan heb ik ook een post 👑

How are things going with you and your family during this time? We have renamed this period now to “corona time”, just like the term they use on the Jeugdjournaal (News for kids). Last week we learned that from May 11 onward schoolchildren of 4 – 12 years of age are part time going back to school. On the other weekdays it’s still home schooling. The kids here loved this good news! They really miss their school friends and teachers. First we have two weeks off for midterm. And tomorrow it’s King’s Day. I’ve also prepared a post 👑

Hoe gaat het bij jullie? Vandaag laat ik een nail art zien die ik al een tijdje geleden had voorbereid. Dus bereid je voor op lange nagels!

How are you doing? Today I’m showing a nail art I had prepared some time ago. So don’t be shocked by the length of these nails!

Om deze afbeelding te kunnen gebruiken, had ik lange nagels nodig. Dus toen ik de juiste lengte had (ergens in december, januari?), heb ik deze nail art gemaakt.

To use this stamping image, I needed long nails. So when I had the right length (somewhere around December or January?), I made this nail art.

Ik heb mij laten inspireren door deze foto, die mijn man een keer heeft gemaakt van een gemengd veld met tulpen. Meestal gaan we wel een keer naar de bollenvelden om te kijken naar de bloemen. Alleen dit jaar niet natuurlijk! Helaas bleef niet iedereen thuis en nu zijn de bollenvelden versneld “gekopt”. Wat heel jammer is.

Husband took this picture some years ago from a mixed planted tulip field and I used is as my inspiration. Usually around this time we visit the bulb fields in the area. Not this year of course! Sadly not all people stayed at home. Now the flowers are mostly cut last week, so much sooner. Sad, but apparently necessary.

Wit en pastel

Het lukt zomaar om midden in de week een post te schrijven. Dus doen we dat!

I managed to write a midweek post, so let’s do that!

De afgelopen ronde in When Colours Collide was met de kleuren wit en pastel. De uitdaging was om met wit en meerdere pastelkleuren een nail art te maken. En dit is wat ik met de opdracht maakte.

Last round of When Colours Collide was with the shades white and pastel. De challenge was to make a nail art with white and multiple pastel shades. This is what I made.

Ik wilde al een tijdje een nail art maken in deze stijl. Over de gekleurde nagel, zet je in een andere kleur een contrasterende streep en daarbij zet je nog een stempel.

I wanted to make a nail art in this style for some time. It’s a style where you paint your nails one colour, you paint a contrasting line with another and stamp an image.

Fijne Paasdagen!

Het was de eerste feestdag in coronatijd. En wat ging het anders dan normaal! Ik ga daarom niet te veel stil staan bij “normaal”, maar vertellen hoe we het toch feestelijk hebben gemaakt.

This was the first holiday during the time with COVID-19 measures. And that meant a completely different style of celebration. I’m not going to dwell to much on the “normal” celebrations, but explain how we still managed to have a festive time.

Allereerst hebben we lekker eten in huis gehaald. Alles voor een lekker paasontbijt, maar ook wat spullen voor de barbecue. Het is mooi weer, dus ook de barbecue kan weer aan. Ook hebben we wat paasversiering neergezet. Om drukte voor te zijn, hebben we al vroeg een wandeling gemaakt bij ons in de buurt. En daarna hebben we genoten van de tuin. Een aantal foto’s van de lente in de tuin staan onderaan de post. Verder hebben we de familie gebeld!

First we made sure to have nice food. We bought everything for a special Easter breakfast and also some things for the barbeque. The weather is really warm and sunny, so it can be used again. We also decorated the house. To make sure it wasn’t crowded or busy, we made an early walk around our neighbourhood. And afterwards we spend most of the day in our garden. Some garden pictures can be found at the end of this post. And of course we made phone calls and video calls to the family!

Deze gezellige paas nail art draag ik nu. Ik heb eerst mijn nagels een tot twee laagjes Essie peak show gegeven en daarna twee laagjes Blush Lacquers Cotton Candy Rays. Dit is een roze jelly lak (vrij transparant) met blauwe shimmer en gouden flakes. Met de Essie eronder is het sneller dekkend en misschien nog wel mooier. Ik heb op alle nagels gestempeld met afbeeldingen van Dashica Infinity Nails stempelplaat 171. Helaas is dit merk gestopt.

This cute Easter nail art is now on my nails. I first painted one to two coats of Essie peak show on all my nails. Than I gave most of them two coats of Blush Lacquers Cotton Candy Rays. This is a pink jelly polish (more on the transparent side) with blue shimmer and golden flakes. I give it undies to get it to coverage sooner and it is even prettier that way. I stamped on all nails with Dashica Infinity Nails stamping plate 171. Sadly this label is now discontinued.

Le Mini Macaron: wear test and review

Sorry, ik ben een dag te laat. Gisteravond hadden we een vriendinnenavond op Skype. Daarna ben ik het helemaal vergeten om nog een blog te schrijven.

I’m sorry for being one day late. Last night we had a friends call on Skype. Afterwards I just went to bed and totally forgot about the blog post.

In maart heb ik via de giveaway van Femketje.nl een Le Mini Macaron set in de kleur Fairy Floss gewonnen. Ik heb deze set getest en ik heb ook een aantal kleuren erbij besteld.

In March I was one of the lucky winners of the giveaway of FemketjeNL. I won a set from Le Mini Macaron in the colour Fairy Floss. I tested this set and ordered some more colours myself.

Ik heb de set uitgeprobeerd op mijn “andere hand”. De instructies zijn duidelijk. Je moet het eerste laagje heel dun aanbrengen en dan met een tweede laagje het dekkend maken. Alleen als er “dun aanbrengen” staat, dan kan ik dat erg goed. Hier zie je dus drie dunne laagjes. De schattige LED lamp in de vorm van een macaron, zie je nog op de achtergrond op de foto.

I tried this set on my “Cindy” hand. The instructions provided with the set are very easy to follow. It says to paint the first coat really thin and create full coverage with a second coat. But when instructions say “work in thin coats”, I will work in thin coats. So here are three thin coats. The cute LED light is visible in the background of this picture.

Le Mini Macaron, Fairy Floss. 15 days of wear

Na twee weken had ik flinke uitgroei en ook wat slijtage aan de nageleindes en kleine stukjes eraf. De eerste twaalf dagen was de lak perfect blijven zitten, maar de laatste drie dagen werd het toch wat minder.

After two week besides growth I experienced some tip wear and chipping. The first 12 days it stayed on perfectly, but in the final three days some chipping occurred.

Ik was na een paar dagen al overtuigd en bestelde meteen vier kleurtjes die geschikt zijn voor naar kantoor. Als ik gel lak draag, dan heb ik het liefst neutrale kleuren. Want even snel vervangen is er dan niet bij. Ik koos voor de kleuren Rose Gold, Rose Jelly, Pearlescence en Honey Ginger. Ik bracht weer drie dunne laagjes aan. Zoals je ziet geeft dat verschillend resultaat. Fairy Floss is een echte creme nagellak en dekt perfect, Honey Ginger daarentegen is meer een crelly. Dat geeft minder dekking, maar meer glans. Pearlescence en Rose Jelly zijn niet bedoeld als dekkende lakken. Rose Gold is meer een metallic lak. Deze dekt in drie dunne laagjes weer volledig.

I liked the Le Mini Macaron system right away and ordered four more colours myself. With gel polish I always choose neutral colours that are office appropriate. Because you don’t change gel polish so quickly. I ordered the colours Rose Gold, Rose Jelly, Pearlescence and Honey Ginger. I applied three thin coats for each colour. As you can see it’s not all full coverage. Fairy Floss is a true cream polish and has perfect coverage. Honey Ginger is a crelly, meaning less coverage but more shine (and squishiness). Pearlescence and Rose Jelly are not meant as full coverage polishes. Rose Gold is more metallic and is again full coverage in three thin coats.

Inmiddels draag ik de vijf kleuren op mijn rechterhand alweer een week en het zit er nog perfect op. Dus ja, ik ben overtuigd!

Nog een stukje COVID-19 update. In Nederland zijn de maatregelen verlengd tot eind april. Dat betekent dat we voorlopig nog moeten thuis werken en dat de scholen gesloten blijven. We zijn nog steeds gezond en daar dankbaar voor! Ook beginnen we het sociale leven op een digitale manier in te vullen. Maar dan moeten ik na die gezelligheid niet nog de blog vergeten 😉

Now a little COVID-19 update. The partial lockdown in the Netherlands is extended until end of April. That means that husband and I still have to work from home and that schools remain closed. We’re still healthy and grateful for that! Social life is getting into a new and digital rhythm. But after a happy chatty time, I shouldn’t forget about the blog 😉
