Layered stamping met KADS – 2

Vorige week probeerde ik voor het eerst een layered stamping uit. Ik gebruikte daarvoor KADS Flowers 036. Vandaag gebruik ik deze plaat nog een keer. Ik hoop deze keer op een beter resultaat!

Last week I tried a layered stamping design for the first time. I used KADS Flowers 036. Today I use this stamping plate again. I hope with better result this time!

Ik pakte deze keer een andere selectie van kleurtjes en koos ook een andere bloem uit op de plaat.

I picked a different selection of colours and also chose another flower from the stamping plate.

Deze keer stempelde ik niet het silhouette van de bloem en ik plaatste de bloem duidelijker uit het midden. Ik kan nog wat preciezer worden in het plaatsen van de stempel, maar ik was hier wel blij mee!

This time I did not stamp the flower’s silhouette and I placed the flower really off-centre. I can still learn to become more precise in placement, but now I am happy with the result!

Layered stamping met KADS – 1

Ik heb hele mooie layered stamping nail art gezien van andere dames en dat maakte mij nieuwsgierig om het ook uit te proberen. Ik heb twee KADS layered stamping plates gekocht: eentje met bloemen en eentje met blaadjes. Helaas ontdekte ik bij levering dat de bloemen groter zijn dan mijn nagels. Toch ga ik er het beste van maken.

I saw very beautiful layered stamping nail art by other ladies and that made me excited to try it too. I ordered two KADS layered stamping plates: one with flowers and one with leaves. After delivery I discovered that the flowers are bigger than my nails. But I will try to make it work.

Als eerste heb ik een heleboel essence nagellakken verzameld. Over het algemeen stempelen die prima. Ik ben in de roze sfeer gebleven.

First I collected a couple of essence the gel nail polishes. They usually also stamp fine. I stayed in rosey colours.

Helemaal geslaagd vind ik het dus niet. Misschien zijn het de kleuren, misschien is het de grote van de bloem. Mijn vriendin noemde het een artistiek iets en zag pas later dat het een bloem was. Ik denk dat ik nog even moet oefenen met deze techniek.

I am not fully convinced I like the end result. Maybe it is the combination of colours. Maybe it is the size of the flower. My friend called it an artistic something en needed some time to realise it was a flower. I think I need more practice with this technique.

Nieuwe nagellak van essence

Vorige maand was er een grote nagellak actie bij een bekende Nederlandse drogist. Ik heb toen flink mijn slag geslagen! Ik zal zo af en toe een nieuw lakje laten zien, maar deze was te leuk. We hebben het over Essence Out of space stories 08 guardians of the unicorn.

Last month a well known Dutch drugstore had a big nail polish sale. I scored really well! I will show you some of my new purchases from time to time, but this one is just too cute. We are talking about Essence Out of space stories 08 guardians of the unicorn.

Ik houd van dit kleurtje! Het is vrolijk en combineert lila met blauw. Ik heb L’Oréal l’huille nagellak in de kleur 671 Monsieur Bleu erbij gepakt voor deze zomerse combinatie.

I just love this colour! It is cheerful and lilac with blue. I grabbed L’Oréal l’huille nail polish in the colour 671 Monsieur Bleu and used this summery combination.

Haarstrik voor Eerste Communie

Toen mijn vriendin vertelde dat ze nog een haarstrik zocht voor bij de communiejurk van haar dochter, bood ik aan er een te maken. De jurk die ze heeft gekocht is van wit satijn met kant, dus dat was ook de basis voor de haarstrik.

When my friend told me she had not found a hair accessory for her daughter to match her first communion dress, I offered to make one. The first communion dress she bought is white satin with lace, so that was also the theme for the hair bow.

Ik had voor mijn nichtje recent geëxperimenteerd met blauw kant en besloot dat nogmaals in het wit te doen. Deze keer plaatste ik de bloem op een grote satijnen strik.

When I made my nieces hair bows I had experimented with blue lace. I decided to do that again, but this time in white lace. I placed the flower on top of a big white satin hair bow.

Mijn vriendin kan echt prachtig vlechten. Haar dochter zag er vorige week op haar grote dag dan ook uit als een plaatje! Ik ben speciaal voor hun een keer naar de kerk gegaan. Het was een lange dienst met veel kriebelige kindjes, maar ook een speciaal moment om mee te maken.

My friend is very skilled in braiding her daughters hair. Her daughter really looked picture perfect on her big day last week. I went to church for this special occasion. It was a long service with many twitchy children, but it was a special moment to see.

Mijn nieuwe gel base

Nu ik een paar maanden aan het bloggen ben, wissel ik veel vaker mijn nagellak dan zeg een jaar geleden. Ik was gewend om minstens vijf dagen met een manicure te doen! Ik merkte dat mijn nagels het niet zo fijn vonden om iedere keer weer door de remover te moeten. Een rondje surfen en reviews later vond ik een aantal opties: na remover een oliebadje doen, peel-off base en soak off gel base.

Een oliebadje na iedere keer mijn nagels schoonmaken leek mij erg onhandig. Nagellak hecht slecht op een vette ondergrond. Dus al dat goeds moet je er eerst weer goed afhalen voordat je kan lakken. Een peel-off base coat leek mij aantrekkelijk, totdat ik van verschillende dames las dat ze veel verkleuring in hun nagels krijgen. Mijn echte leven vraagt van mij dat ik soms met sheer nude polish moet rondlopen (ja ik kom wel eens op heel formele plaatsen…) en dan is verkleuring in je nagels erg onhandig. Dus ging ik voor de laatste optie. Ik kende deze optie al omdat ik al heel lang imabeautygeek lees. En daar had Karen aka Manigeek al vertelt over haar SOG base en tutorials geplaatst. Ik ben op haar adviezen afgegaan en de mogelijkheden van mijn portemonnee 😉

Since I started blogging late January, I change nail polish more often than in the past. I used to wear a mani at least for five days! I noticed that my nails were not that happy undergoing the remover process so often. After researching and reading reviews I learned a few options: an oil bath after remover, peel-off base coat and soak off gel base.

An oil bath every time after removing my nail polish didn’t seem a real solution. Nail polish does not stick to an oily surface. So that means all the good oil stuff needs to be removed before you can polish again. A peel-off base seemed nice, until I read that multiple ladies suffered from discolouration on their nails. My real life demands that if needed I wear sheer nude polish (yes I sometimes come at very formal places…). Discolouration in my nails is not a good thing. So I went with the final option. I knew about this option for a long time because I am a longtime reader of imabeautygeek. Karen aka Manigeek had told about her SOG base and placed tutorials online. I took her advice as starting point and second came the possibilities of the wallet 😉

Ik heb de Red Carpet Manicure Gel Polish Pro kit besteld. Deze kit is heel compleet en ik zag een aanbieding voor een heel aantrekkelijke prijs. Daarnaast heb ik op advies van Manigeek bij de Action nog een spiegel en een zachte tandenborstel bij gekocht. Alle andere materialen had ik in huis. Met de tutorial van Manigeek wist ik het tot best een net resultaat te brengen. Ik had er wat last van dat de topcoat weg liep en in mijn nagelriemen liep. En er is wat onder mijn nagels gelopen bij het ‘cappen’, dat geeft een donkere schaduw in de foto. Ik denk dat ik Manigeeks adviezen verder zal opvolgen en mijn RCM base en top op termijn ga vervangen door Gelish.

I ordered the Red Carpet Manicure Gel Polish Pro kit. This kit comes with everything you need and I was lucky to find a good deal. I also went to the Action store (European discounter) and bought a mirror and a soft toothbrush. All the other items Manigeek mentions, were already in the house. With her tutorial I got to an OK result. I had some trouble with the topcoat, it was runny and flooded the cuticles and some came under my nails with capping. It shows as shadows in the picture. I think I will stick to Manigeeks advices and replace the RCM base and top for Gelish in time.

Na een week met de SOG base kan ik er het volgende over vertellen: mijn nagels voelen beschermd en steviger. Als mijn echte leven geen ‘praktische’ nagellengte zou vragen, denk ik dat ik met deze bescherming mijn nagels verder zou kunnen laten uitgroeien. Het wisselen van nagellak gaat erg gemakkelijk. En de SOG base ziet er na het schoonmaken van mijn nagels nog net zo uit als toen ik het aanbracht. Ik heb met mijn rechterhand een stoot gehad. Dat had een flinke nagelbreuk kunnen zijn, maar het was slechts een chip. Niet slecht dus!

After a week with the SOG base I can say that my nails feel stronger and more protected. If my real life wouldn’t ask a more “practical” nail length, I think I could grow my nails out easily. Changing nail polish is very easy and the SOG base looks the same after each nail polish change. I did hit my right hand against a cupboard. It could have been a nasty break, but instead the SOG chipped. Not bad!

Na 12 dagen werd de uitgroei echt goed zichtbaar en na 14 dagen heb ik het vervangen. Bij de eerste keer aanbrengen was ik twee uur bezig. Bij het vervangen op de manier van Manigeek anderhalf uur. Ik heb goede hoop dat met oefening het nog wat makkelijker en sneller kan gaan. Voor het verwijderen van de gel base is het vooral belangrijk dat je GEDULD hebt! Het is belangrijk om het eerder wat langer te laten weken dan hard op de gel te schrapen. Mijn nagels zijn schade vrij door de eerste ronde gekomen, wat betekent dat ik dit blijf doen!

After 12 days the growth started showing and after 14 days I changed the base. At my first attempt it took me two hours. With replacing following Manigeeks advice it took me one and a half hours. When you remove the gel base it is important to be PATIENT! It’s better to soak a little longer than to push hard on your nails. My nails came out damage free through round one, which means I will keep on doing this!

Pantone challenge deel 3

Mei is voorbijgevlogen! Ik heb weer een update van de Pantone challenge. Mijn eerste post is hier en de tweede hier.

May has gone so quickly! I have another update of the Pantone challenge. The first post is here and the second is here.

In Mei zijn de volgende kleuren langsgekomen: Coconut Milk, Palace Blue, Warm Sand en Arcadia. Ik laat weer eerst de prachtige inspiratie collages van TheNailPolishHoarder zien en daarbij de swatches uit mijn eigen collectie.

May had the following colours: Coconut Milk, Palace Blue, Warm Sand and Arcadia. I will show you the beautiful inspirational collages by TheNailPolishHoarder and the swatches from my stash.

De eerste kleur van deze maand is Coconut Milk. Dit is een lichte roomwitte kleur. Ik koos voor Essie Sweet Soufflé. Deze off-white nagellak heeft een mooie koperkleurige gloed.

First colour of this month is Coconut Milk. This is a licht creamy white. I chose Essie Sweet Soufflé. An off-white nail polish with beautiful copper shimmer.

De tweede kleur is Palace Blue, een heldere blauwe kleur. Ik ben gegaan voor China Glaze license & registration pls. Van alle blauwtinten in mijn collectie kwam deze het dichtst in de buurt.

The second colour is Palace Blue, a bright blue colour. I went with China Glaze license & registration pls. Of all my blues the closest match.

Daarna volgde Warm Sand, een rustige neutrale kleur beige. Ik koos OPI Do You Take Lei Away? Het viel mij een beetje tegen om een goede match te vinden. Mijn eerste keuzes bleken te geel of te goud. Dus ging ik voor een tintje lichter.

Palace Blue was followed by Warm Sand, a comforting neutral beige shade. I chose OPI Do You Take Lei Away? I did not expect that it would be so difficult to find a good match. My first picks turned out to be too yellow or golden. So I went for a slightly lighter interpretation.

Tot slot kwam Arcadia, een blauwgroene tint met een vleugje nostalgie. Ik vond hiervoor Catrice ICONails gel lacquer 13 Mermaday Mayday.

The final one this month is Arcadia, a bluish green with a bit of nostalgia. I found a match in Catrice ICONails gel lacquer 13 Mermaday Mayday.

Nude lace

Deze nail art is geïnspireerd op een aantal mooie nagels gemaakt door andere dames. Kant past erg bij bruiden en de nude basis maakt het heel draagbaar. Dit is ook mijn laatste trouwnagel idee in de serie. Volgende week wil ik het over iets anders hebben.

This nail art is inspired by pictures of beautiful nails I saw on other ladies. Lace is beautiful for weddings and the nude base makes it very wearable. This is also my final bridal nail art of this month. Next week I want to talk about something else.

Ik deed Lace to the altar over een witte basis (niet op de foto) op ringvinger en duim, de andere drie vingers kregen Essie high class affair en daarover stempelde ik een kanten afbeelding. Ik draaide de afbeelding omdat ik dat mooier vond (en dat ging makkelijk want ik heb vrij korte en smalle nagels).

I painted Lace to the altar over a white base (not pictured) on ring finger and thumb, the other three fingers got Essie high class affair with a lace stamp. I turned the stamp because I liked it better that way (and that fitted easily, I have rather short and narrow nails).

Ik moet nog steeds erg wennen aan mijn nieuwe stempellak! Met een andere topcoat liep het niet uit, maar de clean up verliep deze keer niet vlekkeloos 🙃

I am still learning how to work my new stamping nail polish. With a different top coat it did not smear, but the clean up did not go … very clean 🙃

Delicate roses

In de taal van de bloemen zijn de rozen HET symbool voor liefde. Daarom heb ik in mijn romantische meimaand deze nail art met rozen gemaakt.

In the language of flowers roses are THE symbol of love. So I created a nail art with delicate roses in this romantic May theme.

Ik heb op alle nagels een laagje Essie Gel Couture lace me up gelakt en daarover een laagje Essie Gel Couture blush-worthy (uit de wedding collection met Monique Lhuillier). Op mijn ringvinger stempelde ik de rozen van Moyra stamping plate mini series no. 104.

I painted on all nails one medium thick coat of Essie Gel Couture lace me up and on top of it a layer Essie Gel Couture blush-worthy (from the wedding collection by Monique Lhuillier). On my ring finger I stamped the roses from Moyra stamping plate mini series no. 104.

Haarspeld voor mijn nichtje 3

Dit is de laatste post met de haarspeldjes die ik voor mijn nichtje haar verjaardag heb gemaakt. Hier vind je deel 1 en deel 2.

This is the last post with hair bows that I made for my niece her birthday. Here you can find part 1 and part 2.

Ik koos voor blauw kant, licht blauw organza, een vlinder flatback en Clover Kanzashi Flower Maker in Pointed Petal small size.

I picked blue lace, light blue organza, butterfly flatback and Clover Kanzashi Flower Maker in Pointed Petal small size.

Deze keer wilde ik met kant werken. Nu kan je geen kant gebruiken in de Clover Kanzashi Flower Makers. Maar daar heb ik wat op gevonden. We doen onder het kant organza! Dat is samen dun genoeg om in de mal te passen. Tegelijkertijd zorgt de organza ervoor dat het kant tot een bloemblaadje gevormd kan worden.

This time I wanted to make something with lace. You can’t use lace in the Clover Kanzashi Flower Makers. But I found a solution to that. Under the lace I put a layer of organza. Together it is thin enough to fit in the mold. At the same time the organza secures the lace so that it can be shaped into a petal.

Ik was zo blij dat de blauwe tint precies klopte! Wat vind je ervan?

I was so happy the shade of blue matched! What do you think?

Essie Gel Couture x Reem Acra

Het is mei! Iedereen heeft wel een verhaal bij de maanden van het jaar. Mijn verhaal bij mei is dat we in deze maand zijn getrouwd! Daarom wil ik deze maand proberen romantische nail art te maken die je eventueel ook op je bruiloft kan dragen.

It’s May! With every month of the year comes a story. My story with May is that it is our wedding anniversary month! So this month I want to make romantic nail arts that could also be worn on your wedding day.

Een mooie opener van mijn romantische meimaand is de Essie Gel Couture wedding collection van Reem Acra. Deze collectie bestaat uit zes nagellakken, waarvan ik er vier heb gekocht.

A good start for this romantic month of May is the Essie Gel Couture wedding collection by Reem Acra. This collection is made up of six polishes and I bought four.

Ik heb van deze kleurtjes swatches gemaakt. Omdat ik prachtig licht had die dag, lukte het mij om macro’s te maken. Ik heb met een wat ongemakkelijke handpositie ervoor gekozen om mijn ringvinger eruit te lichten. Ik heb iedere lak op dezelfde manier aangebracht: base coat, twee laagjes kleur, geen top coat.

I made swatches of these four. I had beautiful light that day, so I was able to make macro shots. I was a bit uncomfortable, but I decided to let my ring finger be the main focus (wink wink). I treated each polish the same: base coat, two coats of colour, no top coat.

Met de klok mee zijn dit forever family, getting intricate, picture perfect en moments to mrs.

Clockwise it’s forever family, getting intricate, picture perfect and moments to mrs.

Forever family is een roodroze tint met shimmer. Hij is volledig dekkend en heel feestelijk! Getting intricate is een lichtblauw die perfect is als accent en die je kan gebruiken voor “something blue”. Picture perfect is sheer met kleine gouden flakes. Deze melkwitte lak heeft wel wat weg van de lak die ik op mijn eigen trouwdag droeg. Tot slot is er moments to mrs. Deze is ook sheer met grotere flakies. De kleur zou ik omschrijven als lavendelroze. Ik heb moments to mrs. gekozen om een nail art mee te doen.

Forever family is a mulberry red nail polish with shimmer. It’s fully covering and very festive! Getting intricate is eggshell blue. It’s perfect for an accent nail to be your “something blue”. Picture perfect is a sheer nail polish. It’s a milky white with small golden flakes. It reminds me a lot of the polish I wore on my own wedding day! Finally moments to mrs. is also a sheer nail polish with flakies. I would describe the colour as lavender pink. I chose moments to mrs. for a nail art.

Ik lakte eerst een wat dikker laagje Essie need a vacation en deed daarover een laagje Essie Gel Couture moments to mrs. Daarna stempelde ik het randje met de hartjes op mijn nagels met Nicole Diary in wit. Het was de eerste keer met deze stempellak en mijn top coat was er niet echt vriendjes mee. Je ziet op mijn tips dat het een beetje is uitgesmeerd.

I started with a medium thick coat of Essie need a vacation. After that I followed with a coat of Essie Gel Couture moments to mrs. I stamped the hearts with Nicole Diary in white. It was the first time I used this stamping polish. My top coat and this stamping polish do not really like each other because it smeared a bit.
