Twee artikelen in The Guardian zette mij aan het denken. Het is dit artikel waarin het gaat over verlies ten tijde van Kerst en dit artikel over Kerst en rouw. De beide schrijvers geven op een waardige manier aan dat dit jaar, meer nog dan in andere jaren, verlies en rouw een onderdeel zijn van de feestdagen voor veel mensen. Deze Kerstdagen zijn niet voor iedereen een fijne tijd geweest.

Two articles from The Guardian had me thinking. It’s this article about loss in times of Christmas and this article about grief and Christmas. Both articles are very well written to say that this year, more than any other year, the holidays were filled with loss and grief for many people. Not everyone was celebrating a merry Christmas.

Dus maakte ik deze nail art. Paarse nagels met een kaarsje. Paars wordt in Nederland met rouw geassocieerd. En dit kaarsje is voor alle mensen voor wie de feestdagen in corona tijd geen makkelijke periode zijn.

So this is the nail art I created. Purple nails with a candle. In the Netherlands purple is used for half mourning. And the candle is for all the people that had a difficult time during the holidays in times of corona.

Maybe you wonder why I was reading The Guardian. Well, it’s also been an exiting time for Brexit. And more papers = more news (sort of).
